MGTP: MANAGING TROUBLED PROJECTS (2 DAYS / 14 PDU’s)

 COURSE DESCRIPTION


Most organizations have projects that are running behind schedule, over budget, or failing to satisfy the needs of key project stakeholders. These are known as ‘troubled projects’. This 2-day workshop provides you with tools and techniques you can immediately apply in the workplace; to help you realize that the project is in trouble, recognize the root-causes of the trouble, and then choose the best responses to the problems in order to restore and retrieve, or retire the project. You will also learn the value of capturing lessons-learned, and using preventive measures so that your future projects have a far higher chance of success.

Realization

  • Understand when a project is in trouble
  • What are the first signs of trouble?

Recognition

  • Using a standard process and methodology to identify and analyze problems relating to the areas of people / process / business in your project

Recognize project risks

  • Get multiple views of project results, problems and risks from the project team and other key project stakeholders
  • Prioritize the problems and risks for further action
Response
  • Learn how to respond appropriately to the identified problems and risks, to restore the project to health or to terminate and retire the project if it is unrecoverable
Review
  • Review and reflect on the lessons-learned, highlighting key points that will help to avoid future projects getting into trouble
Prevention
  • Golden Rules for avoiding troubled projects, including good-practices and preventive measures
